Health City Medical ICU was set up in 2017 with an intent of imparting quality healthcare to the critically ill. What started off as a small ICU unit of 10 patients has expanded to an ICU complex of 3 complete ICU units and a semi-ICU, a total of 38 beds, with-state-of-the-art facilities round the clock, catering to specific needs of the patients presenting with life threatening illnesses. From few months back, through the association of ESIC Hospital and Health City Hospital, we have been able to reach out to and serve the poor and underprivileged, providing them access to excellent heath care services.
With Dr. Brajen Lahkar and Dr. Reshu Gupta providing ample guidance and support, the ICU conducts training and teaching programmes at regular intervals for all staff, including doctors, nurses and technicians.
A collaboration with health care personnel from different specialities and superspecialities – Neurology, Surgery, Gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Hematology, Nephrology, Urology, Psychiatry- to name a few, has paved the way for better clinical outcomes for the patient.
Several of our patients have improved from very critical states. Mr. Sunmun Johorisa is one such example. He was a young male patient with head injury following an unfortunate road traffic accident. After a long ICU stay of around 2 months, his condition started improving. To the joy of the entire ICU team, he was successfully weaned off ventilator and he could be sent home after a few more days. Today the same patient has been able to resume most of his day-to-day activities. Another patient, Mr. Killseng Sangma was admitted with severe chest injuries, following RTA, with a chest tube in situ for hydropneumothorax. He presented with shock and Acute Renal Failure. After haemodialysis being done several times and gradually weaning him off ventilatory support, he was discharged in a stable condition. Mr. Rupam Barman, a young patient admitted with severe respiratory distress, was diagnosed with H1N1 and severe ARDS. He was weaned off ventilator gradually and he finally got relief from the clasps of the dangerous virus. The smile on the face of these patients have encouraged each ICU member to work harder, to focus on learning more and more, with a motto of working diligently round the clock in the pursuit of perfection.
